Appointments

How to make an appointment

We run a ‘total triage’ system at Wellspring, which means all requests are reviewed by one of our team to provide the best and most appropriate care for your need.

How to book

The NHS App is the easiest way to contact us – see below for further details. You can also use the following link if you cannot use the NHS App: https://florey.accurx.com/p/c84072

You can use either of these methods to submit medical requests (i.e. if you have a new or ongoing medical problem you would like help with), or administrative queries (e.g. sick notes, blood test results, etc.). Please ensure you select the most appropriate option; if you submit an administrative query when your issue is medical, you may be asked to resubmit your request.

Please see the video below for a short demonstration on how easy it is to use the NHS App:

What if I can’t use the NHS App or the website link?

If you cannot access the NHS App, or submit a request via the website, our reception team can complete the relevant questionnaires on the phone with you. All information is treated as confidential whether received by telephone or electronically.

What happens once I have submitted my request?

Following receipt of your request, you may be contacted by one of our clinical or administrative teams with further advice or an appointment.

We aim to manage most queries the same day they are received; if you are requesting an appointment, please make sure you are available to attend the practice the same day. If you are not available, please submit your request on a day when you are. If your request is received after 4pm it may be processed on the next working day.

Can I book an appointment in advance?

Because we aim to deal with everything on the same day, we no longer offer advance booking of appointments for GPs. You can still book routine appointments with our practice nurses and clinical pharmacists, for things like injections, cervical screening, health checks, and medication reviews. To book an appointment for either of these teams, please contact our reception team on 0115 9505907.

Getting the most out of an appointment

In Great Britain, patients on average have just ten minutes with their GP. The British Medical Association (BMA)‘s Doctor Patient Partnership offers the following advice to help you use this time effectively.

Make a list of any questions or problems you wish to discuss beforehand.

Take a pen and paper as you may want to note down important points.

Wear loose clothing if it’s likely you will need to be examined.

Be prepared to tell your doctor of any non-prescription medicines or supplements you are taking.
You can bring someone with you for support.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

If you don’t understand, ask your doctor to repeat it or write it down.

If you are prescribed a drug, make sure you know why it has been given to you, how long to take it for etc. Remember pharmacists are experts in medication and a very useful source of advice.

Be direct. If you have a problem that you find embarrassing or difficult to talk about, don’t leave it to the end of the appointment before mentioning it. Remember your problem is likely to a common one for your GP, who is there to help you.
If you have several problems it is more effective in the long run to concentrate on just one problem during the consultation than to have to rush through a list of problems. Be prepared to make another appointment so that each problem can be given the time it needs to be sorted out.
Be on time for your appointment, or inform the surgery as soon as possible, if you wish to cancel your appointment.
Make a separate appointment for each member of the family.
Accompany under 14 year olds. If however, a young person strongly wishes to be treated without his/her parent’s involvement, his or her confidentiality will be respected.

Interpreter Services

If English isn’t your first language, don’t worry we can help you by arranging an interpreter. If you need an interpreter, please let us know when booking your appointment. We will advise how long it will take for an interpreter to be arranged.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so that the interpreter can be cancelled.

Late for your appointment?

Please attend your appointment on time; if you are late you may not be seen. We try to allow a 10-minute grace period where possible, but this is not always feasible. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day, except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.
